Seesaw Eating

Marleen Jansen is a young Danish designer who created “The Courtesy Table” based on her thesis research in table manners. She wanted a product that kept people from leaving the table. Welcome to the see-saw table – designed to  send a person plummeting downward if the other one takes off. It’s a experiment in balance and awareness.

The structure is simple, with clean lines but the idea is brilliant. This project promotes interactivity among the participants. It also is a bit of a throw back to our childhood playground where we learn teamwork on the see-saw. We also learn how manipulate the equipment which is what Marleen is addressing. The interaction among both sitters is very delicate, with the slightest reaction of the either person creating a potential catastrophe.
